The LSUS Cross Country competed in their first meet of the year at the UT Tyler Braveheart Meet in Tyler, Texas. The course was a hilly 5k through the UT Tyler campus. There were 19 teams competing in the Men's and Women's race.
The women's race was the first of the evening. The LSUS Women's team was led by Sophomore Sarah Haines, who ran 27:04 on the 3.1 mile course and place 36th overall. Kate Inchun was next for the Lady Pilots, running 29:39 and coming in 38th place. The top 5 were rounded out by Rebekah Hensley (36:46, 45th), Anne Puckett (40:11, 46th), and Courtlyn Holley (40:17, 47th). The team finished 8th overall in the meet.
After the race, Coach Rabo stated, "I'm happy with how our teams ran. We got a late start to practice this year and this was a tough course that was very hilly. In spite of the obstacles, several members of our team ran a personal record (PR) and we have a lot to build on in the coming months."
The Pilot Cross Country teams will next be competing in the Ark-La-Tex Border Dash College Division on September 16th at South Bossier Park.
