Men's Cross Country - Mon, Sep. 19, 2016

On Friday, September 16, LSUS Cross Country competed in the Ark-La-Tex Border Dash Collegiate Division. The Border Dash held its inaugural race last year as a high school and middle school meet. This year a college division was added as well. The race took place at South Bossier Park on Caplis Sligo Rd. The course is a flat, 3 mile run around the complex.

The men's race started off the action for the evening. The BPCC Cavaliers got off to an early lead with two runners out front and several runners ahead of the Pilot's. At the one mile, BPCC look poised to win the meet, putting in 6 before LSUS could put in 5. However, over the next 2 miles of the race, LSUS rallied and were able to hold off the Cavaliers. Ben Haines (FR/Shreveport, Louisiana) won the meet with a time of 18:51, a season's best for the freshman. The Pilot's top 5 was rounded out by Angel Marroquin (20:40, 3rd), Solomon Layton (FR/Shreveport, Louisiana) (20:43, 4th), Simon Moradel (SO/Bossier City, Louisiana) (21:18, 6th), and Donald Holland (SR/Bossier City, La.) (23:01, 8th). Also competing for LSUS were Duncan Phelps (SO/Shreveport, Louisiana) (24:58), Jaelon Davis (JR/Miden, Louisiana) (29:59), Ben McRae (SR/Bossier City, Louisiana) (30:22), Ben McDowell (SO/Peyton, Colorado) (30:22), and Jacob McDowell (SR/Peyton, Colorado) (33:49). The Pilots won the meet with a total score of 22 points.
