DALLAS, Tex. - The LSUS Pilots baseball team made the trip to the Lone Star State to play in the Dallas Christian Invitational. The Pilots opened up a four game weekend schedule against Midland College. The Pilots appeared to have a comfortable lead 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning but Midland slowly started to creep back into the game, eventually winning 9-8 on a walk-off single. The Pilots had no time to think about the one that got away as they were right back in action against no. 10 Tabor College. The Pilots fought until the last out but came up short, losing 8-5.
"As a whole, our preparation needs to improve," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee after the two losses. "I felt like we let two games slip away that had we prepared better as a team – we could have changed the outcome. We are looking forward to getting the shot to right the ship tomorrow."
GAME ONE (L, 9-8)
The Pilots jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a towering home run by Matthew Hammock (JR/El Dorado, Arkansas) and later added to the lead on a triple by Caleb Lasseigne (SO/Breaux Bridge, Louisiana) which scored Brenden Meade (JR/Shreveport, Louisiana) and a double by Ryan Pouwells (JR/Surrey, British Columbia) which brought Lasseigne home from third to extend the Pilots lead to 3-0 at the end of two innings.
After adding to the lead with three runs in the third and one run in the fifth, the Pilots were up 7-1. Midland College answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-6 going into the sixth inning. Though the Pilots scored one run in the top of the seventh, it was not enough as Midland scored three in the bottom half to win 9-8.
GAME TWO (L, 8-5)
The Pilots had a hard time getting any sort of rally against Tabor College's Jagger Harjo. Down 8-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Pilots were finally able to get on the scoreboard thanks in part to a solo home run by Kevin Rosario (SR/Hollywood, Florida), who finished with two dingers on the day. "Rosario is really starting to turn the page as a hitter," said coach Lavallee. "The power he is showing is a testament to the work he is putting in daily."
The Pilots did their best at an attempted comeback in the bottom of the seventh scoring three runs on three hits. However, the comeback came up a little short as the Pilots dropped game two 8-5.
