MARSHALL, Tex. – The no. 17 LSU Shreveport men's basketball team picked up a big road win 67-62 over no. 7 Wiley College in Red River Athletic Conference action.  The Pilots improve to 18-6 and 10-4 in the RRAC while Wiley falls to 20-6 and 9-5 in the RRAC.

"We talked all week about how you win on the road with toughness and discipline," said head coach Kyle Blankenship.  "Tonight our guys matched Wiley's toughness but I felt we were the more disciplined team in the second half."

Wiley led by four at the half by shooting 48 – percent which forced the Pilots to make some changes on the defensive side of the ball.  The change helped as the Pilots held the Wildcats to a 28 – percent clip in the second half.

Wiley led by seven (52-45) in the second half when the Pilots made an adjustment on defense to a zone and it helped tremendously as they held the home team scoreless from the 11:22 mark to 3:08 left in the game aiding the visitor's 16-0 run.

"I have to give credit to my assistant coaches for encouraging me to switch to a zone defense in the second half," said Coach Blankenship as his D gave up just 10 points the rest of the contest after the switch and three of those points was a late "desperation" three-pointer.  "I felt like that was the biggest difference in the game."

The Pilots were led in scoring by Rashard Owens (SR/Bossier City, Louisiana) with 18 while Greg Pollins (SR/Texarkana, Texas) and Benjamin Batts (JR/Saginaw, Michigan) each tossed in 14.

"I'm really happy for two of our seniors, Greg Pollins and Rashard Owens," said Blankenship.  "Both of those guys have struggled lately but we challenged them all week to step their games up.  They each did just that in a big way tonight and arguably had their best games of the year."

The Pilots move into second place in the RRAC standings while Wiley slips to fourth place.

"Wiley is a great basketball team and they don't lose many games at home," said Blankenship.  "It took everything we had to walk out of there with a victory."
