AUSTIN, Tex. – The LSU Shreveport men's basketball team have earned the no. 2 seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament despite their 104-97 setback to the Huston-Tillotson Rams in the final game of the regular season. The Pilots will enter the post season with a 20-8 record while the Rams season comes to an end at 8-17.
LSUS coach Kyle Blankenship summed up the weekend in just two words following tonight's contest "Tough Weekend" as the Pilots dropped their final two RRAC games heading into the post season but is proud of what they have accomplished to this point, "We still had a solid regular season and are fortunate to get a first round bye in the conference tournament."
Tonight the Pilots got a stout effort from Benjamin Batts (JR/Saginaw, Michigan) as he netted the game and season high of 30 points as he drained 7-of-15 from long range.
C. J. McGill (JR/Tampa, Florida) (19), Tyrell Springer (SR/Springfield, Massachusetts) (15) and Uzonna Akazi (SR/Queens, New York) (14) all had double figures for the Pilots while each of them went 4-for-5 from the charity stripe. Akazi recorded a double-double as he added 14 rebounds.
The Rams had five shooters net double figures while two of them had 20+.
