Shreveport, La. – After winning the first game of the series, the LSU Shreveport Pilots were back at it with two games Saturday against Houston-Victoria.  The Pilots won the first game 10-0 to win the series and lost the second game 4-0.  The Pilots are now 15-4 and 2-1 in RRAC play and the Jaguars are 3-5 and 1-2 in the league.

GAME ONE (W, 10-0)
The Pilots got off to a fast start in the first inning scoring five runs on four hits including back to back homeruns.

Kevin Rosario (SR/Hollywood, Florida) got the scoring fest started with a two run double that brought David Salgueiro (JR/Miami, Florida) home from second and Ryan Pouwells (JR/Surrey, British Columbia) around from first.  Three batters later, Kevin VanAsselberg (JR/Alexandria, Louisiana) hit a towering homerun over the right field fence to make it 4-0.  On the very next pitch, Vaughn Shapen (SR/Shreveport, Louisiana) connected on his first homerun of the year.

The Pilots would go on to score one run in the fourth and four runs in the sixth.  And that would prove to be plenty for Alex Naiser (SO/Cypress, Texas) who went six innings with four strikeouts.

"Naiser really commanded the zone with his offspeed which was key because he didn't have his best stuff with the fastball today," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee.  "But he gritted it out and gave us a good quality start."

Kevin VanAsselberg finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and Kevin Rosario went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

GAME 2 (L, 4-0)
The Pilots had trouble getting anything going against Houston-Victoria starter Collin Quinn who went 7 1/3 innings while giving up no runs.

"He commanded four pitches for strikes and mixed his pitches well," said Coach Lavallee on the outing by Quinn.  "If he's able to continue doing that, he'll beat a lot of teams."

With the offensive struggles aside the Pilots got two more solid pitching performances from Cade Gibson (FR/Ruston, Louisiana) (3-1) and Renny Tolentino (JR/Miami, Florida).

Gibson went five innings and struck out four batters.  "It was another good job by Cade who only made one mistake all day," said Lavallee which was a fastball that was left over the plate that Chase Almandarez hit over the left field fence for a two-run shot. The only other two runs scored by Houston-Victoria was a two-run homer by Andrew Gross with two outs in the top of the 9th.

Kevin Rosario finished the game 2-for-4 and Ryan Pouwells had two hits for the Pilots who only had eight hits in the game.

"We let too many hanging breaking balls not get hit," said Coach Lavallee.  "We will work on that this week and work on hitting our pitch."
