KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has officially announced the 32 qualifiers and bracket for the 37th annual NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship, presented by Wells Fargo. The event takes place at Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark in Billings, Mont., March 15 – 21.
This year's field consists of 14 automatic berths, 17 at-large selections and championship host Rocky Mountain (Mont.). Automatic qualification is given to conference regular-season champions, regular-season runners-up, tournament champions or tournament runners-up depending on the league. At-large teams were determined using the final regular-season Coaches' Top 25 poll released today, which can be found here.
The NAIA Network – the association's official video streaming home – will broadcast the first 30 games leading up to the championship final on ESPN3. The video platform, powered by Stretch Internet, allows users access to live video, statistics, and social interaction on a number of devices, including mobile. Four days after winning the first conference tournament in school history the LSU Shreveport Pilots women's basketball team (22-9) learned their opponent for the first round game at the 2017 NAIA National Tournament. The Pilots will play at 2:15 p.m. MT at Rimrock Auto Arena in Billings, Montana, against the Westmont Warriors (27-4) who have won back-to-back GSAC championships.
"We're so excited to be in this national tournament," said LSUS coach Curtis Loyd who is the reigning RRAC Coach of the Year. "This was a goal of this team at the beginning of the season and we are excited to have this opportunity. Westmont College will be a very good team that has back-to-back conference championships. They also have a good core group that has been playing extremely well together. It's going to be a good game and a good match up."
