Marshall, Tex. – On a cold, windy day the LSU Shreveport Pilots traveled to Marshall, Texas to play two against the Wiley College Wildcats.  The Pilots won the first game 2-1 and the second game 7-2 to win the series and improve to 17-5 overall and 4-1 in RRAC play.  The Wildcats fell to 5-17 and 0-4 in the league.

GAME 1 (W,2-1)
Alex Naiser (SO/Cypress, Texas) took to the mound and gave the Pilots everything they hoped for and more.  Naiser finished with 6 1/3 innings pitched while giving up one run and striking out four.  He was two outs away from his first complete game of the year.

"Naiser did a good job like usual," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee.  "He mixed his speeds well and was able to place his fastball where he wanted too."

Runs were at a premium all day but the Pilots were able to get on the board due to a Layton Laird (JR/Baton Rouge, Louisiana) homerun.  Later in the inning, Vaughn Shapen (SR/Shreveport, Louisiana) was able to get under one to score Kevin VanAsselberg (JR/Alexandria, Louisiana) to extend the Pilots' lead to 2-0.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Pilots turned to Renny Tolentino (JR/Miami, Florida) to close the game out.  With the tying run on third and the winning run on second, Tolentino got a strike out of Eloy Reyna III to seal the deal on a game one victory for the Pilots.

"Have to win those games especially on the road," said Coach Lavallee on his team winning a close one.  "Good to see the guys stay calm in a pressure situation and being able to close a ballgame out."

GAME 2 (W, 7-2)
Trey Robledo (SR/Fredricksburg, Texas) picked up the win for the Pilots after going five complete innings, giving up one run and striking out four Wildcat hitters.

"Trey is our ace," said Coach Lavallee.  "Anytime he starts our team feels confident that we will win the ballgame."

Up 1-0 in the third inning, Kevin Rosario (SR/Hollywood, Florida) hit a laser three-run homerun over the left-center fence to make it 4-0 Pilots.  The Pilots then scored two in the fifth and one in the seventh for their seven runs on the day.

Beaux Guilbeau (SO/Carthage, Texas) led the way offensively as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run batted in.

"Beaux has been big for us all year," said Lavallee.  "He is continuing to give us good at bats and is a big reason why we are doing the things we are doing."

Other notable offensive contributors for the Pilots offensively were Ryan Pouwells (JR/Surrey, British Columbia) who went 2-for-3 and Layton Laird who finished 1-for-4 with three RBIs.
