WACO, Texas -- Vaughn Shapen (SR/Shreveport, Louisiana) of LSU Shreveport was tabbed as the RRAC Baseball Player of the Week for March 13-19. This is the eighth set of weekly awards for the 2017 baseball season.
Shapen drove in nine runs in a 3-2 week for the Pilots. The senior catcher was 7-for-14 with five runs scored and five walks. Shapen sparked a 17-4 win in the first game of a threee-game series with Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) by going 4-for-4 with two triples, a home run and five RBIs. The Shreveport native also tacked on two RBIs in each of the last two games as LSUS won the series 2-1. Shapen is now batting .380 this season with two homers and 16 RBIs. The Pilots are currently ranked 13th in the country and are locked in a three-way tie with TAMUT and University of the Southwest (N.M.) for first in the RRAC at 7-2 with an overall record of 20-8.
