LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (BOX SCORE) – The LSU Shreveport Pilots were sent to the elimination round despite a quality start from right hander Renny Tolentino (JR/Miami, Florida) as The Master's Mustangs used a six-run rally, following the 7th-inning stretch, to defeat the Pilots 8-4 on Monday at The Grizzly Baseball Complex in the NAIA Baseball National Championship in the Lawrenceville Bracket. The Pilots will face elimination tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Eastern against the no. 3-seeded Central Methodist Eagles (42-16).

"We failed to compete when we needed to the most," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee. "We would get leadoff runners on and then we found a way to leave them there. Up and down our lineup we failed to execute with runners on."

The Pilots (38-20) on three different occasions manage to get the first two batters of the inning on base but could only bring home two of those base runners. Today they left a total of seven runners on base.

"Renny gave us a good start, but too many free bases came back to bite him, His ability to lead a leadoff triple stranded in the 6th was a great sign, but we can't allow the 8-9 [hole hitters] to walk and single to start the 7th , then the wheels came falling off. Our bullpen let us down. But give The Master's credit, they can hit and they put the pressure on our pitchers."

Tolentino settled for the no-decision after working six solid innings as he scattered five hits and allowed three runs (two earned) with five strikeouts. He worked around a tight zone all-day but did have four walks and it was the one in the 7th  that started the inning and then a base hit at pitch number 102, which led to his departure as the Pilots were leading 3-1 but there were runners on first and second with no-outs.

The bullpen could not get the job done as The Master's (36-21) took advantage of every opportunity given to them by the Pilots to muster the game-winning rally.

LSUS scored first as they plated runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings as they finished with three hitters with a multi-hit performance as just the top six spots in the order were the only ones to produce hits.

Brenden Meade (JR/Shreveport, Louisiana) led the way at the plate going 2-fo-4 with two runs batted in while Kevin VanAsselberg (JR/Alexandria, Louisiana) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Beaux Guilbeau (SO/Carthage, Texas) was 2-for-3.
