LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Justin Donaldson (JR/Walker, Louisiana) recorded the final three outs to earn his first save of the season as the LSU Shreveport Pilots topped the 15th-ranked Central Methodist Eagles 6-4 on Tuesday at the Grizzly Baseball Complex in the NAIA Baseball National Championship in the Lawrenceville Bracket. The Pilots advance to tonight's elimination game as they face the host and 14th-ranked Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies.

"Top to bottom, we all pulled together and the guys did a great job of executing," said LSUS coach Brent Lavallee who picked up his first win the Opening Round as head coach. "This is a dangerous group when they are challenged."

Central Methodist (42-17) scored first in what looked to be a pitchers' duel as LSUS starter Cade Gibson (FR/Ruston, Louisiana) had allowed only one base runner in the first two innings while striking out four batters. But the Eagles rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 3rd which led to Gibson's departure after the frame where his pitch count reached a total of 60 pitches for the day.

Alex Naiser (SO/Cypress, Texas) (8-3) picked up the win after coming in from the bullpen to start the bottom of the 4th inning and did he ever deliver. He allowed only two hits in his four and 1/3 innings of work while walking just two batters, fanned five and threw 77 pitches. Jeremyh Angela recorded the final two outs in the 8th inning.

Pat Day (JR/Tyler, Texas) was unable to record an out as he walked two but that was enough for the Pilots to make another change as they brought in Donaldson to finish off the Eagles as he struck out two of the four batters that he faced.

After being shutout in the first three innings, the Pilots (39-20) answered with a run in the rest of their at-bats as Kevin Rosario (SR/Hollywood, Florida) ripped a solo-homer over the left field fence in the top of the 4th inning. They picked up an unearned run in the 5th and then Beaux Guilbeau (SO/Carthage, Texas) crushed a two-out solo-homer from the right side of the plate in the 6th.

The run in the 7th came on a leadoff inside-the-park homer by Brenden Meade (JR/Shreveport, Louisiana) and then Vaugh Shapen singled in Rosario in the 8th. The run in the 9th came after an error by the Eagles which led to Chase Spatafora (FR/Farmerville, Louisiana) scoring on a sac-fly from Rosario.
