Men's Soccer - Wed, Sep. 20, 2017

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The LSU Shreveport men's soccer team is off to a great start in their first season back on the pitch as they are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll. This is the program's first ever mention in the NAIA's poll as they are 5-1 on the young season which is the best start in the program's history since starting 3-1 on the 2012 season, their final year before the soccer program was suspended due to lack of funding.

• The 2012 LSUS team finished 14-6 which is the mark for most wins and fewest losses in a season at LSUS.

• Head Coach Phillip Bohn has his team on pace to have a better year less than a year from his hire date.

"I'm so happy for the boys to be receiving some national recognition," said Coach Bohn. "They are working very hard and have so much quality. They also have so much more to show. Although we have a long way to go as we work to establish ourselves as a national mainstay, it's humbling getting some votes in the coaches' poll early in our first season. We believe if we stay the course and follow the plan this won't be all for LSUS men's soccer. We have far greater expectations as a program. It's all about the process. Now we will see how we respond to outside expectations and continue to grow. Our goal is to get better every day and compete for championships. This is exciting, but changes nothing. Today we have our final non-conference game and our sites are set on Hendrix College and a quality performance that is improved from our last outing. It's also our final tune up before our in state rivalry game at LSU Alexandria. This should be a fun week."

• Most goals scored in a game in two of their contests so far this season.

• The old record was five and the new record is six which the Pilots have done twice this season.

Daniel Meza (JR/Fontana, California) now has the record for points (7) and assists (3) in a game.

Murray Cockburn (JR/Edinburgh, Scotland) set the record for goals scored in a game as he netted the hat trick during the first seven minute of the season.

Yoran Van Houdt (FR/Mol, Belguim) has already tied the single season and career record with five wins so far this season and has set the season and career record with four shutouts so far this season.

• The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, Association of Independent Institutions and Unaffiliated Groups

• The Top 25 is determined by a points system based on how each voter ranks the best teams. A team receives 30 points for each first-place vote, 29 for second-place and so on through the list

• The highest and lowest ranking for each team (a non-rating is considered a low rating) is removed and the team's ranking will be recalculated with an additional point added to each team for every ballot (including discounted ballots) that the teams appear on

• Teams that receive only one point in the ballot are not considered "receiving votes"

• at Hendrix College on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 7 p.m.

• at LSU Alexandria on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 3 p.m.
