University Crowns First Miss LSUS in 22 years

A proud tradition has returned to LSUS! On Saturday, October 7, the Miss LSUS Pageant swept back on to campus in glamorous fashion after a twenty-two year hiatus.

Seven remarkable students displayed their poise and elegance this weekend as they vied for the opportunity to become an ambassador for the university.  While all of the students were ideal candidates, LSUS Freshman and women's cross country runner, Pearl Merry (FR/Bossier City, Louisiana) ultimately captured the crown! Pearl is a Biochemistry major, and already an active campus participant. She is a member of the LSUS Student Activities Board, Minority Association of Pre-Health Studies (MAPS), Associate Member of Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED), and LSUS Cross Country.  She went home with a new crown, sash, and a $1,000 award, all from the LSUS Alumni Association. Pearl also captured the People's Choice Award, which sent her home with an additional $50 prize from the LSUS Alumni Association.

The pageant was brought back by the request of the LSUS Student Government Association. Chancellor Clark immediately approved the decision, and the LSUS Alumni Association voted to underwrite expenses and prizes. With 50th anniversary celebrations well underway, the pageant felt like the perfect way to blend classic LSUS traditions with new ones.
