#12 PILOTS TAKE SERIES WIN OVER #21 LYON
The 12th ranked LSUS Pilots baseball team claimed another series win today as they split Sunday's doubleheader against #21 Lyon. The Pilots lost 5-2 in game one before picking up their third win over the series in game four, 6-3. The Pilots are 10-1 after today's first loss of the season and are at 3-0 in series victories.
GAME ONE - BOX SCORE
The Pilots suffered their first loss of the 2020 campaign in Sunday's opening seven-inning game. Shreveport was tied 1-1 with the Scots going into the bottom of the fourth inning before things unraveled for starting pitcher Kevin Miranda. The Scots pushed four runs across in the fourth with two of those runs being earned. Miranda would depart trailing 5-1 and the Pilots could only muster a lone run in the seventh inning. LSUS had a chance with runners at 2nd and 3rd and Taylor Fajardo at the plate with two outs, but Fajardo went down looking on strikes to end the game.
Kevin Miranda took his first loss of the season in the game giving up five runs, two earned, over four innings of work. Miranda struck out six batters in the four innings. Marco Gutierrez threw two scoreless innings for the Pilots in relief.
Offensively, the Pilots were held to their lowest run total of the season. Ryne Ray accounted for both of the Pilots runs in the game as he knocked in two with two hits. Payton Robertson and Austin McNicholas each finished the game with a pair of hits. The Pilots were held to eight hits in total.
GAME TWO
The Pilots righted the ship in game two and finished off the series with a 6-3 victory to pick up their 10th win of the season. Andrew Lowe got the ball for the Pilots in the finale and went four innings for the Pilots giving up three earned runs. Naythan Arroyo would replace Lowe and finish off the game with 3 2/3 innings of dominant work to pick up the win and close out the series. Arroyo struck out seven batters and allowed just one hit without issuing a single walk. Though he did hit one batter. Arroyo's pitching on Sunday was one of the best performances of the season for a Pilots pitcher.
Offensively, the Pilots opened the game with an RBI from Ryne Ray that drove in Austin McNicholas. in the fifth, The Pilots would reclaim the lead after falling behind 2-1 as Payton Robertson drove in a run on a single and then a sac fly from McNicholas. LSUS would push one more run across in the seventh before icing the game in eighth with a pair of runs.
Payton Robertson, Ryne Ray, Charles Clark and Austin McNicholas each finished the day with two hits, accounting for eight of the Pilots nine total. Robertson led the team with two RBI.
