#12 PILOTS SPLIT WITH CLARKE (3-1, 5-10)

#12 LSUS split today's double-header against Clarke University, winning game one and dropping game two. The Pilots got a dominant performance from David Jones on the mound for the 3-1 win in the first game. Then things fell apart for the Pilots in their 10-5 loss in game two. LSUS is now 11-2 on the season.

GAME ONE

David "Buckshot" Jones, tonight's Player of the Game, was brilliant in game one for the Pilots. Buckshot threw a complete game in the Pilots 3-1 seven-inning win. Jones gave up only two hits across his seven innings with just one run crossing the plate against him. He struck out eight batters against just two walks. Jones dominant performance moved him to 2-0 on the season. He needed 101 pitches to complete the seven-inning gem. It was his first start of the season and first complete game.

Offensively, Payton Robertson led of the game with a single before Kody Kolb singled through the right side to score Payton after a stolen base. From there, the Pilots started their engines as Kolb stole a pair of bases before scoring the games second run. LSUS would add one more run in the second inning as Charles Clark stole a pair of bags and later scored on an errant throw by the catcher.

Miguel Morgan was the only Pilot to pick up two hits in the game as LSUS was held to just five hits.

GAME TWO - BOX SCORE

Game two was the Pilots worst performance of the season. The Pilots gave up a season-high 10 runs in the game while also making three errors. It was also their first home loss of the season.

Trey Rugg started gave the Pilots four solid innings. He gave up two runs, one earned, over his four innings. Clarke picked up five hits against Rugg but Trey struck out six of the 12 batters he retired. Victor Silverio took over for Rugg and had a disastrous sixth inning. Silverio gave up six runs on four hits, three walks and a hit-by-pitch. Silverio took his first loss of the season because of the effort. Austin Tambellini gave the Pilots three servicable innings out of the pen to finish the game.

Offensively, LSUS was quiet for most of the game. It was Miguel Morgan and Chase Spatafora hitting 8 and 9 that propelled the Pilots at the plate. Each finished with three hits in the contest. Morgan had three runs scored while Spatafora drove in three. Kody Kolb continued his hot hitting with a pair of singles.

The Pilots are back on the field tomorrow to close out the four-game series. Game one begins at Noon.
