#12 PILOTS LOSE CONFERENCE OPENER TO JARVIS
The 12th ranked Pilots baseball team had a rough start to their conference season as they lost in today's series opener to Jarvis Christian 15-11. This was the Pilots first loss in a game to begin a series this season. LSUS is now 13-3 on the season and 0-1 in the RRAC.
The Pilots pitching staff fell apart in today's 15-11 loss to the Bulldogs of Jarvis. It was the worst loss of the season for the Pilots. LSUS had only allowed more than seven runs in one game to this point on the year. David Jones got the start for the Pilots and went six innings giving up six earned runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out five batters. He gave up two big home runs in the game that chased him from the game in the opener. Jones also hit two batters. Naythan Arroyo entered the game and walked a pair of batters before being pulled for Trent Sholders who allowed six more runs, four earned. Sholders would be saddled with the loss in the game after allowing the six runs. Ross Capone and Josh Fortenberry combined to throw a scoreless inning and one third to close out the game but the damage had already been done.
Offensively, LSUS mustered 11 runs against the Friday starter for Jarvis, Eloy Fuentes. Ryne Ray pieced together a good day with three hits and two home runs. He drove in a game-high four RBI. Corey Bellot had his best day of the season as he hit his first HR and drove in a pair of runs while scoring three times on two hits. Kody Kolb, Austin McNicholas and Chase Spatafora picked up multi-hit efforts in the loss, as well.
The Pilots will look to bounce back tomorrow with a double-header starting at noon.
