PILOTS WIN GAME ONE OVER SOUTHWEST 9-2
#12 LSUS picked up their 16th win of the season as they defeated Southwest 9-2 in their first game of a three-game series. The Pilots were powered by a dominant performance from David Jones on the mound to improve to 3-1 in the RRAC.
David "Buckshot" Jones was the storyline in this game as the Pilots right-hander dominated through seven innings of work. He struck out eight batters and allowed just one hit through seven innings of shutout baseball. Jones improved to 3-0 on the season with the superb outing. Victory Silverio gave LSUS a scoreless inning of work in the eighth before Josh Fortenberry closed it out, allowing two runs in the ninth inning.
Offensively, the Pilots had many chances to blow the game wide open and finally did late. Shreveport's Austin McNicholas continued his hot hitting at the plate as he was 3-4 in the game with a walk and run scored. Miguel Morgan led the Pilots in the runs department as he crossed the plate three times in the game and also stole a base. Chase Spatafora and Kody Kolb eached produced two RBI each as the Pilots tallied nine total runs in the contest. McNicholas was the only Pilot with a multi-hit performance even though LSUS picked up 12 total hits and drew seven walks.
Defensively, the Pilots did not commit and error in the game. This is back-to-back spotless performances in the field.
The win puts LSUS at 16-4 on the year and 3-1 in the RRAC. Shreveport will play the final two games of the series tomorrow starting at 1 pm.
