Pilots Have League Leading 15 Players Named All-Conference
STERLINGTON, LA. - Prior to the start of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament, the conference named 15 Pilots to their respective All-Conference teams - leading the conference in All-Conference selections.
Austin McNicholas was named the RRAC Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference Shortstop for his remarkable play during his senior season. The Austin, Texas native is currently hitting .416 on the season with four homers, and 45 RBIs. The extra-base hit machine sits with 24 doubles and two triples on the season, leading a potent Pilot offensive attack all season long.
Kevin Miranda was named the RRAC Pitcher of the Year after one of the best seasons a Pilot pitcher has ever had. The senior sits with a 11-1 record on the season with a 1.85 ERA. His 133 strikeouts are tops in the nation and has only walked seven batters in 73 innings pitched. He is only seven strikeouts away from breaking the all-time program record for most strikeouts in a single season. He was also named First Team All-Conference as a starting pitcher.
Joining Miranda and McNicholas on the First Team as a starting pitcher is Bobby Vath, who was named the RRAC Newcomer of the Year. Vath has made an immediate splash in his first season with the Pilots. He has a 12-0 record with a 2.15 ERA. He has thrown 71 innings with 97 strikeouts and only 19 walks.
Joining those three on the First Team is Josh Wunnenberg, Zyon Avery, JB Trees, Julian Flores, Ryan Major, Carlos Pineyro, Nathan Beyer, Chase Guitreau, and Josh Fortenberry. Wunnenberg has been a steady hand for the Pilots behind the plate this season. He is hitting .343 with seven homers and 35 RBIs. Avery is batting .390 on the season with a team leading 10 home runs. Trees has been a solid contributor at second this season for the Pilots, batting .346 with one homer, five doubles, three triples, and 24 runs batted in. Flores and Major are both among the nation's leaders in batting average as they both are well in the .400s. Pineyro is hitting a .390 clip with two homers and 38 runs batted in. Beyer has been a slugging machine for the Pilots at the DH position as he has hit six homers for a slugging percentage of .865. Guitreau and Fortenberry have been lights out of the pen for the Pilots, combining to go 5-2 in over 30 innings with three saves this season.
Flores, Major, and Pineyro were also named RRAC Gold Glovers for their outstanding work in the field this season.
The Pilots also had three players named Second Team All-Conference. Trevor Burkhart was named Second Team utility player, Brad White was named Second Team starting pitcher, and Alex Gonzalez was named Second Team relief pitcher. All three players played a huge role in the Pilots' success this season.
