Pilots Sit at Number Three in First Season Coaches' Poll
Kansas City, Missouri— The NAIA released the first official poll of the baseball season and apart from the top two teams there have been quite a few changes including the movement of the Pilots up two spots.
The Pilots have worked their way into the number three spot on the coaches' poll following a 19-2 season start. The Pilots have dropped just two games in the season with one being to a school receiving votes. Against Top 25 and Receiving votes teams the Pilots currently hold a 6-1 record with 10 more Top 25 and RV games to come. The Pilots were previously supposed to face the No. 22 Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan and the No. 4 Warriors of Webber International, but circumstances wouldn't permit the matchups.
The Pilots continue to roll hot as they hold an 11-1 conference record with an eight-game win streak. As a collective they have put up 146 runs and a batting average of .308. Josh Gibson leads the Pilots, and the RRAC, with 64 at bats and a .438 batting average while at the plate. He is also second in the conference with 12 stolen bases. AJ Fritz and Vantrel are close behind batting .339 and .338 respectively.
On the mound Isaac Rohde leads for the Pilots as he is number one in the RRAC for wins, with five, and strikeouts, with 51. He sits at number five in the conference for ERA at a 2.40. Draven Zeigler is tied for first with Rohde on wins with five and is fourth in conference with 40 strikeouts.
The Pilots continue to work their way through conference play, throwing in a few high intensity Top 25 games here in there as the season continues. The Pilots will be back in action Sunday March 17th as they take on the Gold Rush of Xavier in a double header. First pitch of game one is set for 4:00pm CTfrom Pilot Field in Shreveport, Louisiana.
