Pilots Pick Up Midweek Win Against Rams

Fort Worth, Texas - In a midweek matchup that went right down to the last pitch, the Pilots were able to defeat the Rams of Texas Wesleyan and move to 36-7 on the year. 

Today's afternoon game was a back and forth affair that saw the Pilots use seven different pitchers, including ace Isaac Rohde, as he entered the game in the eighth inning to work out of a jam and get the win for LSUS. The scoring happened early and often as LSUS would get on the board in the first inning from a Vantrel Reed double that would score two. Texas Wesleyan would take the lead back in the third inning and extend it in the fifth before the Pilots would respond. In the sixth inning, Trevor Burkhart would ground out to the shortstop but score Reed on the play making the score 3-4. In the seventh, Reed would single to bring Ryan Davenport to the plate tying up the game. Two straight hit-by-pitches would score two more runs for LSUS and a timely single from Diego Aragon would bring Jose Aquino home putting the Pilots up 7-4. The eight inning would find LSUS in jam with the bases loaded leading by just one run, but as mentioned before, Rohde would work his way out of it, picking the runner off at third and then causing a groundout ending in the inning. A 1,2,3 ninth inning would seal the deal for LSUS sending them home with a win while giving Rohde his first save of the year. 

Reed would have a solid day at the plate going 3-5, with a double and a run, while driving in three. Burkhart would also drive in two runs, while stealing a base, with Josh Gibson would go 2-5 with a run and two stolen bases. 

LSUS will return home on Friday to face Texas College on Senior Weekend. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm on Friday night, followed by a double header starting at noon on Saturday. Having already wrapped up the regular season championship, LSUS will play next Thursday in the conference tournament as the top seed at 5pm in Sterlington, LA.
