Focus Shifts to Opening Round
Sterlington, LA - LSUS will turn it's focus to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round that they will be hosting on May 3rd in Shreveport after their loss in the semifinals of the conference tournament. With today's loss, the Pilots' record moves to 42-9.
LSUS led most of the way against Louisiana Christan, but a timely error and a homerun that barely snuck over the very short right field line cost them the game and a chance at the tournament championship. The game would go 12 innings, but it would be the Wildcats who would find themselves victorious by a score of 7-6. LSUS wasn't as sharp as they were yesterday going just 11-46 from the plate. Austin Gomm, Jose Aquino, Diego Aragon, and Trevor Burkhart would all hit doubles, with Burkhart going 2-4 from the plate.
On the mound Minderts gave the Pilots a chance as he went 5.0 innings, giving up just one hit and one run. After a stellar performance yesterday, Chase Guitreau would come in again late in the game with the scored tied and keep things close, but after an injury to one of the Wildcats and a lengthy delay, LSUS was forced to pull Guitreau.
LSUS's next game will be in the NAIA Opening Round on May 13th. The Pilots will find out who they play and Thursday evening during the selection show. Tournament information can be found on the NAIA website.
