By: Cameron Braun, LSUS Sports Information

On Friday night, the Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) Pilots took down the Central Baptist College Mustangs 8-5 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Lex Meinderts had his first start of the season, and the Mustangs got to him early, putting two on the board in the first inning after an error by right-fielder Jackson Syring. The Pilots struck back in the bottom of the second inning with a big two-out rally when shortstop Jose Sallorin hit a game-tying two run double. The Pilots ended up with a four spot in the second inning with contributions from catcher Diego Aragon and third baseman Josh Gibson.

The Mustangs scored in the third inning with a run off a drop-third-strike. The fourth inning was another big one for the Pilots offensively. Aragon kicked off the scoring run with his second hit and RBI, followed by RBI knocks from both Gibson and right-fielder Ryan Davenport. The Mustangs inched back in the fifth inning as Jaxon Kirkhuff struck a two-run single up the middle.

The game went scoreless after the top of the fifth inning as Josh Miller recorded the first save for the Pilots this season when Chett McDaniel to flew out to Davenport in right field. Camden Stephens snapped up the win for LSUS with an inning pitched and gave up three hits, two runs and fanned two.

Despite the two unearned runs given up by Meinderts in the first inning, he pitched four innings and gave up just one earned run off three hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Aragon had a solid night at the plate as he recorded three hits and knocked in two. Sallorin also drove in two with two hits.

For Central Baptist, starter Josh Albat went three innings and gave up three runs on four hits, one walk and six strikeouts. Jaxon Kirkhuff stood out with the bat and the arm, tossing two shutdown innings with three strikeouts as well as a two-run single.

The Pilots will be back in action at Pilot Field as they face Central Baptist tomorrow at 3 p.m. and Indiana University Southeast at 6 p.m.
