On Friday, the Louisiana State University Shreveport Pilots improved their record to 23-0 as they recorded another run rule victory in conference play.
The Pilots came out swinging as Josh Gibson struck the board first with a two-run homer. Then Jackson Syring drove a run in with a base hit. After that, a Vantrel Reed RBI double and Austin Gomm two run homer gave the Pilots six runs, all in the first inning. LSUS would tack on some more in the second inning starting with Gibson crossing home plate after a throwing error by the catcher trying to nab Gibson at third base. Afterwards, Angel Rodriguez singled and Anthony Swenda scored thanks to a fielding error in left field. Gomm drove in another run with a single, making it 9-0 in just the second inning.
Reed struck again in the fourth inning with a two-run double, making it 11-0. In the fifth inning, the Rams finally got to starting pitcher Isaac Rohde as Adam Sheehan recorded an RBI single. The Pilots kept it going in the bottom of the fifth inning as Syring doubled in two more runs. Cameron Henson capped the offense off with a two-run homer in the sixth inning, his first of the season, to extend the lead to 15-1. Rohde shut it down in the seventh to solidify the run-rule victory.
Rohde had another stellar outing, going all seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, striking out a baker's dozen and walking one. He also hit a batter. For Huston-Tillotson's starter Cullen Lee, he only went one inning, giving up six earned runs on seven hits including two homers.
It was a great night for Pilot bats. Reed led the way with three hits, three RBI's, a run scored and a stolen base. Gibson tallied two hits and two RBIs. Syring and Gomm both recorded two hits and drove in three runs. Henson also had two RBIs. Swenda stole three bases. For the Rams, their only offense was a Sheehan RBI knock.
