STERLINGTON, La. — The LSU Shreveport Pilots completed a dominant run through the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, blasting their way to the 2025 RRAC Championship with a pair of lopsided wins — a 12-1 semifinal victory over Our Lady of the Lake University followed by an 11-1 rout of Louisiana Christian University in the title game. The sweep also marked the Pilots' 51st win of the season and saw four players earn spots on the RRAC All-Tournament Team.
In their opening game of the day, the Pilots wasted no time jumping ahead. Vantrel Reed opened the scoring with an RBI single, and Anthony Swenda followed with a thunderous grand slam to give LSUS a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Reed added a two-run homer in the fifth, and LSUS exploded again in the seventh, tacking on five more runs with big hits from Austin Gomm and Jose Sallorin. The Saints scratched across a single run, but the damage was done as LSUS advanced to the title game with a 12-1 victory. Cobe Reeves was dominant on the mound, going the distance while allowing just five hits, one run, two walks, and striking out six. Domenic Martinez (2-5) took the loss for OLLU after allowing nine hits, 11 runs (all earned), and two home runs over 6.1 innings.
In the championship matchup, the Pilots kept their bats hot. Josh Gibson crushed a pair of two-run home runs in the first and second innings, staking LSUS to a quick 4-0 lead. Diego Aragon launched a three-run homer in the third, and Gomm added a two-run shot in the fourth as the Pilots poured it on. Swenda and Angel Rodriguez added RBI hits to stretch the lead to 11-0 before Louisiana Christian answered with a solo homer — their only run of the day. Brock Lucas (2-0) picked up the win with three solid innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three. Jacob Bareswill (6-2) took the loss for the Wildcats, surrendering five hits, four runs, and two homers in 1.2 innings.
Nine Pilots earned All-Tournament honors: Austin Gomm (1B), Vantrel Reed (2B), Josh Gibson (3B), Jose Sallorin (SS), Diego Aragon (C), Ryan Davenport (OF), Anthony Swenda (DH), Draven Zeigler (SP), and Cobe Reeves (SP). Gibson was named the RRAC All-Tournament MVP for his offensive firepower, while Sallorin received the RRAC All-Tournament Gold Glove for his standout defensive performance at shortstop.
With 51 wins on the season, an RRAC title in hand, and momentum firmly behind them, the Pilots now turn their attention to the NAIA Opening Round at Pilot Field from May 12-15.
