Carlos Sanchez Earns RRAC Baseball Player of the Week Honors

SHREVEPORT, La. — LSU Shreveport baseball junior Carlos Sanchez has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 26–Feb. 1, the conference announced.

Sanchez delivered a standout performance during the Pilots' 4–0 week, helping LSU Shreveport sweep a series against fourth-ranked Hope International University. The junior went 9-for-18 at the plate, scoring four runs while collecting a double and three triples. He drove in seven runs and swiped five bases across four games, showcasing his all-around impact.

For the week, Sanchez posted a .500 batting average with a .526 on-base percentage and an .889 slugging percentage. The Pilots' wins came by scores of 9–8, 5–2, 19–8, and 2–1.

This is his first season with the No. 1-ranked Pilots after transferring from Florida Southwestern State College and Sanchez has quickly made his mark. A native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, he has added speed, pop, and consistency to the LSUS lineup.

The NAIA defending national champions, LSU Shreveport entered the season unanimously ranked first in the NAIA Preseason Poll after making history last year with a 59–0 overall record and a perfect 30–0 mark in conference play. The Pilots remain unbeaten at 6–0 this season, most recently edging fourth-ranked Hope International with a go-ahead run in the eighth inning to secure a 2–1 victory.

LSU Shreveport returns to action Feb. 6–7 when the Pilots travel to Sterlington, La., for the annual Cajun Collision tournament.
