Sanchez Earns Third RRAC Player of the Week Honor
SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport junior Carlos Sanchez has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Player of the Week for Feb. 16-22 after powering the top-ranked Pilots to a conference-opening sweep of Xavier University of Louisiana.
Sanchez was nothing short of dominant at the plate, hitting a staggering .727 (8-for-11) across three games. He scored four runs and drove in eight while racking up three doubles, one triple, and 13 total bases for a 1.182 slugging percentage. He reached base 10 times in 14 plate appearances (.714 on-base percentage) and struck out just once during the series.
The junior opened the weekend with a 2-for-3 performance that included a triple, two RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases in an 18-0 victory. He followed that by going a perfect 4-for-4 in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, delivering five RBIs and two doubles. Sanchez capped the sweep with two more hits and another RBI in the finale. He also swiped three bases during the series and was flawless defensively, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage.
On the season, Sanchez continues to lead nationally and within the conference. He ranks first in the NAIA with five triples and paces the RRAC with 27 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. Among Pilots, he leads the team in hits (26), doubles (six), triples (five), total bases (48), RBIs, and stolen bases. This marks Sanchez's third RRAC Player of the Week honor in five conference announcements this season.
LSUS, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA 2026 Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, is 14-2 overall and 3-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play. The Pilots return to action Tuesday, Feb. 24, when they host Central Baptist University at Pilot Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
