Pilots Hold Top-Five Spot, Ranked No. 4 Nationally

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport baseball remains among the nation's elite, checking in at No. 4 in the latest GoRout NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll released April 1, 2026.

The Pilots earned 397 points and one first-place vote in this week's rankings, continuing their presence in the top tier of NAIA baseball.

LSU Shreveport now sits at 29-7 overall and 14-4 in Red River Athletic Conference play, following a week of mixed results. The Pilots responded to a tough weekend sweep at the hands of Texas A&M University-Victoria with a strong 8-1 road victory over John Melvin University (Crowley) on Tuesday.

LSUS will look to build momentum as it returns home to host the University of the Southwest on Thursday, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. at Pilot Field in Shreveport, La.

Offensively, the Pilots continue to rank among the most productive teams in the country. LSUS has totaled 374 runs this season while posting a .358 batting average, a .478 on-base percentage, and a .589 slugging percentage, along with 39 home runs.

Leading the charge is standout Carlos Sanchez, who continues to put together one of the top offensive seasons in the NAIA. Sanchez has recorded 47 runs, 59 hits, 12 doubles, 13 triples, and nine home runs, while driving in 60 RBIs—good for second in the nation—and swiping 27 bases. He is also hitting .440 with a .487 OBP and a .910 slugging percentage, ranking among the top 15 nationally in batting average.

On the mound, Brock Lucas has been a key anchor for the Pilots' staff, compiling a 6-1 record with a 1.99 ERA, which is tied for ninth in the nation. He has also posted an 11.26 strikeouts-per-nine innings rate and a 0.83 WHIP.

As a staff, LSUS pitchers have combined for a 3.12 ERA, an impressive 11.57 strikeouts per nine innings, and a 1.22 WHIP, continuing to complement the team's high-powered offense.

With the postseason approaching, the Pilots will aim to climb back up the national rankings while continuing conference play this week at Pilot Field.
