Pilots Sweep Friday Doubleheader Behind Offensive Firepower

SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport baseball put together a dominant Friday at Pilot Field, sweeping a doubleheader from the University of the Southwest, 10-3 and 13-3, to improve to 32-7 overall and 17-4 in Red River Athletic Conference play. Southwest dropped to 11-28 overall and 7-14 in league action.

Game One: LSUS 10, Southwest 3
The Pilots used a balanced offensive attack and a steady outing on the mound to take the opener. LSUS totaled 11 hits and plated runs in five different innings, including a three-run sixth that helped create separation.

Carlos Sanchez led the charge offensively, going 2-for-4 with a triple and multiple RBIs, while Spencer Sullivan added two hits and drove in a pair. Dorien Jackson also contributed a three-hit effort as the Pilots consistently applied pressure throughout the lineup.

After Southwest briefly tied the game in the third, LSUS responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning to regain control for good. The inning featured timely hitting, including RBI knocks from Sanchez and Jackson, along with aggressive baserunning.

On the mound, Brock Lastra earned the win, tossing five innings while allowing just two earned runs and striking out three. Joan Roman and Camden Stephens combined in relief to close things out.

Game Two: LSUS 13, Southwest 3
LSUS carried its momentum into the second game, erupting for 13 runs on 10 hits in another run-rule victory.

After a scoreless first, the Pilots broke through with a three-run second inning and never looked back. A five-run fourth inning blew the game open, highlighted by RBI production up and down the order.

Dorien Jackson, Carlos Vega, and Bula White each drove in multiple runs, with Vega delivering a big swing late that resulted in a home run and four RBIs. Makana Olaso also chipped in offensively with extra-base production and run-scoring contributions.

Southwest managed to scratch across a run in the fifth, but LSUS answered immediately and continued to add on, including a four-run sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

Robert Lastra picked up the win in Game Two, allowing just two earned runs over four innings while striking out four. The bullpen combination of Cade Robin, Virot Shiarath, and Jacob Galaz handled the rest to secure the sweep.

LSU Shreveport returns to action on Tuesday, April 7, hosting Texas Wesleyan University at 1 p.m. at Pilot Field in Shreveport, La.
