SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport fell to Texas Wesleyan, 7-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Pilot Field, moving to 32-8 overall while the Rams improved to 31-7.
Texas Wesleyan set the tone early with a run in the first inning before breaking things open with a three-run third to take control. The Rams added to their lead late, including a three-run eighth inning to put the game out of reach.
LSUS was limited to one run on eight hits in the contest and was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities throughout the afternoon.
On the mound, Calvin Shepherd was charged with the loss after allowing four runs in 2.1 innings of work. The Pilots' bullpen combined to cover the final 6.2 innings, allowing three runs while keeping LSUS within reach into the later innings.
Texas Wesleyan's pitching staff proved effective from start to finish, with starter Ty Sansom earning the win before the Rams' bullpen combined to allow just one run the rest of the way.
LSU Shreveport will look to bounce back on Friday, April 10 at 6 p.m. as they open a home series against Texas A&M University-Texarkana at Pilot Field.
