Pilots Close Series Strong with Senior Day Sweep Over Eagles

SHREVEPORT, La. -- The LSU Shreveport Athletics baseball team celebrated Senior Day in dominant fashion Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader against Texas A&M University–Texarkana with 8-1 and 9-5 victories at Pilot Field.

Prior to first pitch, LSUS honored a 15-member senior class that has helped shape one of the program's most successful seasons: Brett Justice, Bula White, Nazir Mendez, Calvin Shepherd, Ashton Wong, Nathaniel De La Cruz, Robert Lastra, David Hankins, Jack Savitch, Kobe White, Brock Lucas, Spencer Sullivan, Luke Shelton, Camden Stephens, and Carlos Vega.

With the sweep, the Pilots improved to 34-9 overall and 19-5 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while the Eagles dropped to 22-23 overall and 11-3 in conference action.

Game 2: LSU Shreveport 8, Texas A&M–Texarkana 1

LSU Shreveport wasted no time getting on the board, as Carlos Sanchez reached to open the first and later scored on an RBI groundout by Bronson Neave to give the Pilots an early 1-0 lead.

The Pilots added on in the second when Spencer Sullivan worked a walk and came around to score on a two-out RBI single from Andrew Perez. LSUS continued to apply pressure in the fourth, with Sullivan once again sparking the offense and Perez delivering his second RBI hit of the game to extend the lead.

In the fifth, Quaterrion Walton provided a spark off the bench, drawing a walk and scoring on a clutch RBI single by Bronson Neave. Brett Justice followed with an RBI knock to push the advantage further.

The Pilots tacked on two more in the sixth, highlighted by an RBI double from Makana Olaso and a sacrifice fly from Dorien Jackson, finishing with eight runs on nine hits.

On the mound, senior Brock Lucas delivered a commanding performance, tossing a complete game while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out nine. After allowing a run in the fourth, Lucas retired the final 10 batters he faced to seal the win.

Game 3: LSU Shreveport 9, Texas A&M–Texarkana 5

The Pilots struck first again in the finale, as Carlos Vega lifted a sacrifice fly in the opening inning to score Carlos Sanchez for a 1-0 lead.

After Texarkana used a four-run fourth inning to take the lead, LSU Shreveport answered in the bottom half. With the bases loaded, Quaterrion Walton delivered a two-RBI double to tie the game, and Bronson Neave followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Pilots back in front.

LSUS broke things open in the seventh, as Carlos Sanchez came through with a go-ahead two-RBI single, and Neave added another RBI to extend the lead. The Pilots added insurance in the eighth when Rodrigo Bravo ripped a two-run double and Sanchez capped his big day with another RBI knock to make it 9-5.

On the mound, the Pilots relied on a strong bullpen effort. After a solid start from Robert Lastra, Virot Siharath earned the win in relief, settling things down and limiting further damage down the stretch.

The Pilots will close out their regular season schedule on Tuesday, April 14, as they host Nelson University. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Pilot Field.
