LSU Shreveport Selected to Host 2026 NAIA Baseball Opening Round
SHREVEPORT, La. -- LSU Shreveport will once again serve as a national postseason destination as the Pilots have been selected to host the 2026 NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round (Shreveport Bracket), set for May 11–14 at Pilot Field. The selection marks the fifth consecutive season and sixth time overall LSUS has hosted the event, continuing to establish Shreveport as one of the NAIA's premier postseason sites.
The Pilots enter the postseason riding momentum after capturing the 2026 Red River Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Championship, defeating Texas A&M–Texarkana, 17-6, to secure the league's automatic berth. LSUS will learn its Opening Round opponents during the NAIA Selection Show on May 6 at 4 p.m.
LSU Shreveport has put together another outstanding season, compiling a 41-12 overall record, including a dominant 31-4 mark at home and a 20-7 record in conference play. The Pilots have been one of the most complete teams in the country, combining elite offensive production with a deep and effective pitching staff.
At the plate, LSUS has been among the nation's most explosive offenses, hitting .348 as a team with 537 runs on 579 hits. The Pilots have showcased both power and speed, launching 60 home runs while stealing 209 bases, consistently applying pressure on opposing defenses. Leading the charge is Carlos Sanchez, who is putting together one of the top seasons in the NAIA with a .400 batting average, 84 hits, 81 RBI, and 36 stolen bases. Makana Olaso has anchored the middle of the lineup with 15 home runs and 59 RBI, while Quaterrion Walton (.371, 37 stolen bases) and Dorien Jackson (.331, 36 RBI, 23 steals) have provided dynamic production at the top of the order. Additional depth has come from Spencer Sullivan (.348, 43 RBI), Carlos Vega (.370, 43 RBI), and Evan Gant (.474), giving the Pilots one of the deepest and most balanced lineups in the country.
On the mound, LSU Shreveport has continued to dominate, posting a 3.35 team ERA while holding opponents to a .240 batting average. The pitching staff has recorded 439 strikeouts across 427.1 innings, showcasing both frontline starters and a reliable bullpen. Brock Lucas has led the way with a stellar 10-2 record and 1.83 ERA, striking out 111 batters in 88.1 innings, while David Hankins (7-1, 3.45 ERA) has provided consistency in the rotation. Jacobo Gallegos (5-1) and Evan Gant (4-1) have delivered key innings, while Camden Stephens (4-0, 2.42 ERA) has emerged as a dependable arm out of the bullpen.
With postseason experience, home-field advantage, and elite production on both sides of the ball, LSU Shreveport is once again positioned to make a strong push toward the Avista-NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
