ESPORTS COMING TO LSUS IN THE FALL
LSUS Athletics is excited to announce the addition of esports this fall as the newest club sport on the LSU Shreveport campus. For the first time, LSUS will have an esports team as they prepare to step onto the virtual field. The Pilots Esports team will compete in both the fall and spring semesters in the NACE, the National Association of Collegiate Esports.
The LSUS Esports team will field a team of seven members initially as they expect to compete in the NACE's League of Legends competitions. The competitions have five members per team with two subs included.
The Pilots will be under the leadership of new head coach Matthew Parks. Parks will look to guide the Pilots in their first year with the help of student assistant, Haley Beard. Parks is excited about the addition of esports at LSUS. Parks is looking forward to his first year with the Pilots, "I have loved gaming for as long as I can remember. I am excited to bring that passion to LSUS's Esports program."
In preparation for the new team, the Pilots have added a new gaming room complete with 24 top-end gaming computers. The Pilots will be able to host tournaments in the future with the cutting edge gaming room.
For now, the Pilots will compete exclusively at League of Legends but could compete in Valoriant, Rocket League or Hearthstone in the future.
LSUS Athletic Director, Lucas Morgan, played a pivotal role in bringing esports to the LSUS Campus. His thoughts on the newest club sport - "I'm excited about this addition to our program. Esports is the fasting growing sport in the world right now so it makes a lot of sense to add it at LSUS. I'm looking forward to watching our student-athletes compete in our new state of the art gaming room."
