LSUS Pilots Fall to Jarvis Christian in a Tight Matchup, 76-73
HAWKINS, Texas – The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) men's basketball team came up just short in a hard-fought battle against Jarvis Christian University on Saturday afternoon, falling 76-73 on the road. The Pilots move to 3-3 on the season and 0-2 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.
LSUS was led by Meikkel Murray, who delivered a solid performance with 15 points and six rebounds. Melvion Flanagan also tallied 15 points, along with two assists and two steals. Tyler Washington made his presence felt on both ends of the court, contributing 12 points, four steals, and three rebounds. Tahjae Hill rounded out the Pilots' double-digit scorers with 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
The Pilots shot 45.8 percent from the field, 34.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 43.5 percent from the free-throw line. Despite their efforts, they could not overcome a sharp performance from the Bulldogs.
Jarvis Christian (5-2, 1-1 RRAC) was paced by Brandon Deravine, who led all scorers with 18 points and added two rebounds. Jamari Robertson chipped in 13 points and six assists, while Jorden Clark matched him with 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Caleb Thompson provided 12 points and four rebounds, and George Nwogu dominated the glass with 10 rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 47.3 percent from the field and excelled at the free-throw line, hitting 78.3 percent of their attempts.
The game was closely contested throughout, with both teams exchanging momentum in the second half. However, Jarvis Christian's efficiency at the charity stripe proved to be the difference in the final moments.
The Pilots will look to bounce back at home on Thursday, Nov. 21, when they host Texas College at 7:30 p.m. in The Dock.
