LSU Shreveport Pilots Defeat Florida Memorial 94-88 on the Road
WAXAHACHIE, TEXAS -- In a thrilling road battle, LSU Shreveport rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Florida Memorial University 94-88, improving to 8-3 on the season. The Pilots overcame a determined FMU squad that fell to 7-3 in the closely contested matchup.
Hayden Brittingham led LSUS with 24 points and 15 rebounds, adding five assists and three blocks. Khi Wallace scored 20 points with seven rebounds. Emareyon McDonald contributed 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Alexzaye Johnson added 11 points and seven assists.
Florida Memorial was led by Devin Carter's 23 points, six assists, and four rebounds. Cameron Noel and Morgan Brewer each had 13 points and five rebounds. Jeffrey Selden finished with 10 points, three assists, and three rebounds.
Florida Memorial came out strong, jumping to an early 13-24 lead behind Brewer's consecutive layups and aggressive play. The Lions extended their advantage to 36-46 at halftime, seemingly in control.
LSUS flipped the script in the second half, with Brittingham's layup at 14:23 giving the Pilots their first lead of the half at 56-55. Johnson Thaddeus followed with a momentum-shifting dunk to push LSUS ahead 60-55.
The game-changer came when Wallace caught fire, scoring eight consecutive points including a thunderous dunk that extended LSUS's lead to 62-55. His aggressive drives to the basket forced FMU to burn timeouts and couldn't contain his offensive surge.
LSUS maintained control behind Johnson's steady playmaking, as his seven assists led to crucial baskets throughout the fourth quarter. The Pilots' defense held firm in the closing minutes, with Brittingham's presence in the paint disrupting FMU's final attempts.
Wallace sealed the victory with a pair of free throws at 1:02 to make it 91-84, then finished with another dunk at 0:42 for the final 93-86 margin. Johnson Thaddeus made a free throw with 0:15 remaining to provide the final 94-88 score.
LSUS returns to The Dock to face the University of the Southwest on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
