Pilots Defend Home Court, Top LSU Alexandria 89–80
SHREVEPORT, La. -- LSU Shreveport men's basketball picked up a hard-fought 89–80 win over LSU Alexandria on Saturday afternoon at The Dock, extending its strong conference run.
With the victory, LSU Shreveport Pilots improved to 17-4 overall and 14-1 in Red River Athletic Conference play, while LSU Alexandria Generals slipped to 15-7 overall and 12-4 in the RRAC.
The Pilots weathered an early punch from LSUA before settling in defensively and taking control late in the first half. LSU Alexandria jumped out to an early 4–0 lead, but LSUS responded with energy on both ends, highlighted by a pair of early dunks from Khi Wallace that sparked a momentum shift. LSUS continued to apply pressure in the second half, stretching the lead to as many as 13 points behind efficient shooting and balanced scoring. The Pilots shot 57.1 percent from the field and controlled the paint with 48 points inside, helping them withstand several late pushes from the Generals. LSU Alexandria trimmed the deficit to single digits multiple times down the stretch, but timely baskets and free throws sealed the win for the home side.
