Brittingham Named RRAC Defensive Player of the Week
SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport senior forward Hayden Brittingham has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for games played February 9-15, marking his fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Brittingham delivered a commanding defensive performance during a pivotal three-game RRAC stretch, leading the Pilots to a 2-1 record while serving as the anchor in the paint. He averaged 8.3 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals per contest, finishing the week with 25 total rebounds, including 14 on the offensive glass.
He consistently controlled the interior, limiting second-chance opportunities and forcing opponents to alter their approach around the rim. He opened the week with eight rebounds and three blocks in a 113-87 road victory over Texas College, setting the defensive tone early. In a key conference win over Nelson University, he again secured eight rebounds and swatted three shots, protecting the rim and disrupting offensive rhythm. He closed the week with a nine-rebound effort — six on the defensive end — while adding a block and a steal against Xavier University of Louisiana. Brittingham totaled six blocks across the three contests, reinforcing his presence as one of the conference's premier rim protectors.
In conference play, Brittingham ranks first in field goals made (187-of-325), total rebounds (235), and scoring average (18.5 points per game). He sits second in total points (455), blocks (47), and offensive rebounds (97), and has recorded nine double-doubles this season. In addition to his four Defensive Player of the Week honors, he has earned three Offensive Player of the Week awards.
LSU Shreveport has clinched the RRAC Regular-Season Championship and will enter the conference tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Pilots have also secured a berth in the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
Ranked No. 13 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll — a two-spot climb from the previous rankings — LSUS currently stands at 21-5 overall and 18-2 in conference play.
The Pilots will continue conference play Thursday at 7:30 p.m. as they travel to face Texas A&M–San Antonio.
