Shreveport, Louisiana— The LSU Shreveport Pilots emerged victorious against the University of Houston Victoria Jaguars with a final score of 2-1 for the first time since the program returned in 2017. With the win the Pilots improve to a 4-3-1 season record and a conference record of 2-1.
The first goal of the match came in the 45th minute of the first half, just under a minute before halftime, courtesy of a brilliant effort by Adam Gonzalez. The Pilots had dominated the first half, outshooting the Jaguars 6-2, and Gonzalez's goal gave them a well-deserved lead at the break.
However, the Jaguars roared back in the second half, leveling the score at 1-1 with a skillful pass across the box that resulted in a goal in the 54th minute. It seemed like the game could go either way at that point, but the Pilots responded swiftly.
In less than five minutes after conceding the equalizer, Jack Thomas delivered a perfect assist to Alex Golder, who capitalized on the opportunity, putting the Pilots ahead 2-1. This goal proved to be the match-winner.
As the game reached its climax, the Pilots' defense held strong, despite being outshot 7-9 in the second half. Ashton Bonsall, the Pilots' goalkeeper, was in top form, making four crucial saves on five shots on goal and allowing only one goal to slip past.
In the end, the LSU Shreveport Pilots emerged triumphant with a 2-1 victory over the Jaguars of Houston Victoria, thanks to their determination and ability to strike back quickly. It was an exhilarating contest that showcased the skill and resilience of both teams.
The Pilots will be back in action Saturday September 23rd as they take on the Rams of Huston-Tillotson. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm from The Swamp in Shreveport, Louisiana.
