Shreveport, Louisiana—In an intense soccer showdown, the LSUS Pilots men's soccer team emerged triumphant with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Texas A&M Texarkana Eagles in overtime. With the win the Pilots move to an overall record of 14-4-1 and advance to the RRAC conference semifinals.
From the first whistle, the Pilots and Eagles engaged in a relentless battle, with the Pilots launching a continuous assault on the Eagle goal.
In the first half, the Pilots displayed their offensive prowess by outshooting the Eagles 8-1, but they found themselves unable to break the deadlock, and the first half ended without any goals.
As the second half unfolded, the Pilots continued their relentless attack, bombarding the Eagles' goal. The Eagles' goalkeeper, Jacob Mendes, displayed remarkable skill and determination, fending off an impressive 10 additional shots from the Pilots, while the Eagles only managed two attempts themselves. Despite the Pilots' domination, regulation time concluded with the score tied.
The tension only escalated as overtime commenced. In the 92nd minute, the Pilots found the breakthrough they had been relentlessly pursuing. Alex Charles, displaying composure and skill, finally managed to find the back of the net. With this pivotal goal, the Pilots took the lead.
The Pilots maintained their solid defense for the remainder of overtime, successfully holding off the Eagles and securing the 1-0 victory. This thrilling and hard-fought win highlighted the Pilots' determination and resilience as they outlasted their opponents to claim victory in an exhilarating soccer match.
The Pilots will be back in action Thursday November 9th as they travel to Texarkana for the RRAC Semifinals. Opponent and time will be released following other tournament games.
