Pilots Make History with Win Over Olivet Nazarene

Bartlesville, Oklahoma-- In a gripping soccer match, the LSU Shreveport Pilots emerged victorious against the Olivet Nazarene Tigers with a thrilling 1-0 win in double overtime. With the win the Pilots continue their season with a 16-5-1 record and advance to the NAIA tournament second round for the first time in program history.

From the opening kickoff, the Pilots displayed an aggressive attacking style, but both teams staunchly refused to concede throughout the game. The first half was marked by intense battles on the field, yet despite numerous attempts, neither team managed to break the deadlock, leaving the score level at 0-0. The Pilots asserted their dominance in terms of shots, outshooting the Tigers 8-1 and earning two corner kicks.

As the second half unfolded, the Tigers mounted a comeback, demonstrating more offensive prowess and outshooting the Pilots 4-2. However, the score remained stubbornly tied at 0-0, setting the stage for an intense overtime battle.

In the first overtime period, the struggle for possession and control heightened, with each team managing only one shot. With just ten minutes left in the game, the Pilots understood the urgency to secure a victory. In a moment of brilliance, Adam Gonzalez rose to the occasion and netted the game-winning goal in the 110th minute of play, propelling the Pilots to a historic win.

A standout performance came from goalkeeper Ashton Bonsall, who tirelessly defended the Pilots' goal, making five crucial saves and preserving a clean sheet, ultimately keeping the Tigers off the scoreboard.

With this hard-fought victory, the LSU Shreveport Pilots made history, advancing to the second round of the NAIA national tournament for the first time in the program's history. The team's resilience, determination, and late-game heroics will be remembered as they continue their journey in the tournament.

The Pilots will be back in action Saturday November 18th as they face the Oklahoma Wesleyan in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament. Kickoff is set for 1:00pm CT from Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
