WICHITA, Kan. — The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) men's soccer team saw its impressive season come to a close on Monday afternoon, as the Pilots fell 1-0 to Bellevue University (Nebraska) in the NAIA National Men's Soccer Tournament Round of 16.
After a tightly contested first half at Stryker Sports Complex, the match remained scoreless as both defenses held firm. However, the Bruins broke through in the 62nd minute when Coehen Rusin capitalized on a well-executed play. Giovani Lima Soares and Ombeni Mubake combined for the assist, setting up Rusin's decisive goal.
The Pilots had a chance to equalize late but were unable to convert. Both goalkeepers put in strong performances, with LSUS's Kyle McLeish recording one save and Bellevue's Tarriq Ganga matching him with a save of his own.
LSUS concludes a stellar season with a 14-5-4 overall record, including an undefeated 11-0-2 mark in Red River Athletic Conference play. Despite the defeat, LSUS showcased resilience and determination throughout the season, earning a spot among the nation's top teams.
