SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS) women's basketball team soared past Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT), 85-50, in a commanding performance on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Pilots advanced to an impressive 14-3 overall record and 13-1 in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play.
The Pilots were led by standout performances across the board. Tiarra Tillison paved the way with a team-high 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists, showcasing her all-around impact. Paula Gonzalez Herrero added a stellar effort with 18 points, six steals, four rebounds, and three assists, providing both offensive firepower and defensive tenacity. Helena Galunic contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Fatima Katembo chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. Vicky Parra dominated the glass with a game-high 11 rebounds.
LSUS shot an impressive 50.7 percent from the field, including a scorching 46.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Pilots also capitalized on their opportunities at the free-throw line, converting 50 percent of their attempts. Their relentless effort was evident in key statistical categories as they outscored TAMUT in points off turnovers (27-21), second-chance points (15-13), points in the paint (40-16), fast break points (21-0), and bench points (24-14).
The Pilots' defense stifled the Eagles, holding them to just 26.7 percent shooting from the field and 21.9 percent from three-point range. TAMUT was led by Kayla Williams, who recorded 18 points and five rebounds. Chi'onne Dailey added 10 points and five rebounds, while Gigi Waddell and Chioma Treasure Emeh each secured seven rebounds.
LSUS's dominance was capped by their largest lead of 35 points, achieved with just 44 seconds remaining in the game.
The Pilots will look to continue their momentum as they travel to Tyler, Texas, on Tuesday, January 14, to face Texas College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
