No. 25 LSUS Set to Face Huntington in NAIA Women’s Basketball Tournament First Round
SHREVEPORT, La. – The No. 25 LSUS women's basketball team is tournament-bound, earning the No. 5 spot in the 2025 NAIA Women's Basketball Tournament. The Pilots will compete in the Hastings, Neb. bracket and face Huntington University (Ind.) in the first round on March 14.
LSUS (27-3) secured its place in the national tournament after an impressive season, capturing the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) regular-season title with a dominant 23-1 conference record. The Pilots continued their success by clinching the RRAC Championship with a hard-fought 54-51 victory over LSUA in the title game.
The Pilots boast a balanced scoring attack led by Selma Markisic, who averages 12.6 points per game. Helena Galunic follows closely, contributing 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per contest. Paula Gonzalez Herrero adds another scoring threat, averaging 11.3 points per game. Offensively, Alexis Brown orchestrates the attack with a team-high 3.4 assists per game, while Erynn Williams anchors the defense with 3.0 steals per contest.
Huntington University (17-12) enters the tournament after finishing as the fifth seed in the Crossroads League Women's Basketball Tournament. The Foresters were eliminated by Spring Arbor University, 93-85, in the league tournament. Huntington is led by Gabi Melby, who averages 16.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Liv Raby provides a strong presence in the paint, also averaging 6.9 rebounds per game.
Tip-off for the first-round matchup is scheduled for March 14, with the winner advancing to the second round in pursuit of an NAIA national title.
