LSU Shreveport Women’s Basketball Sweeps RRAC Weekly Honors

SHREVEPORT, La. –The LSU Shreveport women's basketball team swept the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) weekly awards for Dec. 28-Jan. 4, with senior guard Paula Gonzalez Herrero named Offensive Player of the Week and junior Toni Coleman earning Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Gonzalez Herrero led the Pilots to a 90-58 victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana, recording a season-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. She also contributed five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. The senior guard ranks second on the team with 116 points, averaging 16.6 points per game this season.

Coleman continued her strong defensive play in the same game, finishing with 11 points, seven steals and four defensive rebounds. The junior ranks seventh in the RRAC with 59 defensive rebounds and leads the conference with 56 assists and 66 steals. She is also second on the team with 162 points (11.6 ppg) and 71 rebounds (5.1 rpg). Coleman has now earned five RRAC Player of the Week honors, including three consecutive defensive awards.

The Pilots, who received two votes in the latest NAIA Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, sit atop the RRAC standings at 12-2 overall and 8-0 in conference play. LSUS travels to face Xavier University (La.) on Jan. 8 in New Orleans, with tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
