Coleman Sweeps RRAC Top Honors as Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Year
SHREVEPORT, La. – LSU Shreveport women's basketball junior guard Toni Coleman has been named the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, capping off a historic debut season with the Pilots.
A junior transfer from South Medford, Ore., Coleman has anchored the Pilots' defense from day one, leading the nation in steals throughout the season. She currently boasts 135 steals, breaking the LSUS single-season record of 86 — a mark that now sets the standard in program history.
Coleman's relentless defensive presence fueled LSU Shreveport's success on both ends of the floor. In addition to her nation-leading steals total, she averaged 12.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 4.7 steals per game, proving to be one of the most dynamic two-way players in the conference.
Her impact was recognized consistently throughout the season, as she earned six RRAC Player of the Week honors.
Coleman also delivered in big moments, recording two double-doubles during the year. She posted 23 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over UNT Dallas on Feb. 5 and followed that with a 12-point, 11-rebound performance against Our Lady of the Lake (Feb. 24).
Her combination of defensive dominance, scoring ability, and leadership played a pivotal role in the Pilots' championship-caliber season. With the RRAC Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards, Coleman cements her place as one of the most impactful players in LSU Shreveport women's basketball history.
