LSUS HOSTS WEIGHTLIFTING MEET

By: Avnee Patel

SHREVEPORT, La. - The LSUS Weightlifting Team held a competition hosting quite a few different Universities. The competition included the Japanese Weightlifting Team, LSUS Weightlifting Team, ETSU Weightlifting Team, a weightlifting team from Canada and 2 weightlifters from Ghana, Richmond Osarfo and Christian Amoah. Both had participated in the last Olympic Games under the guidance of Coach Kyle Pierce.

The event was a huge success and a few a few LSUS Alumni and weightlifters were present. One of which was Aaron DuVall who trained at LSUS during his academic career and was happy to lend a hand running the event and supporting his former team members. Former LSUS Assistant Coach for the Weightlifting team, Seiichiro Takei came in a week before the competition from Japan to train before competing and join in on the reunion and lastly Olympic champion Kendrick Farris.

Coach Pierce did an excellent job of running this event and hosting the different universities. As always, he and his team put their heart and soul into this event and it was nothing short of impressive. Each University team was welcomed and the members enjoyed their time getting to know each other, learning from each other and having the opportunity to train with such high stature weightlifters.
