LSUS Women Earn Fifth, Men Battle to 12th at National University Championships
Columbus, Ohio – The LSUS Weightlifting team delivered a strong performance at the National University Championships, held Feb. 27 - March 2, earning a fifth-place finish in the women's division and a 12th-place finish in the men's division.
Day 1:
The competition began with Thomas Kniss in the 73 kg weight class, where he placed 17th overall. Kniss successfully completed three of his six lifts, recording a snatch of 93 kg, a clean and jerk of 118 kg, and a total of 211 kg. In the 59 kg weight class, Hannah St. Gerard and Grace Gonzalez-Liz put up solid performances. St. Gerard secured a sixth-place finish, making four of her six lifts with a snatch of 71 kg, a clean and jerk of 87 kg, and a total of 158 kg. Gonzalez-Liz followed closely behind in seventh place, successfully completing five of her six lifts with a snatch of 69 kg, a clean and jerk of 89 kg, and a total of 158 kg.
Day 2:
Luke Blank competed in the 89 kg weight class, finishing 35th overall. He completed three of his six lifts, posting a snatch of 100 kg, a clean and jerk of 115 kg, and a total of 215 kg. Kela Kauha'aha'a took on the 71 kg weight class, securing a 15th-place finish with two successful lifts. She recorded a snatch of 68 kg, a clean and jerk of 88 kg, and a total of 158 kg. Dylan Satkunam delivered a solid performance in the 89 kg division, finishing 19th overall. He made four of his six lifts, registering a snatch of 104 kg, a clean and jerk of 140 kg, and a total of 244 kg.
Day 3:
The LSUS women continued to show their strength on Day 3. Enyjai Tyson put in a strong effort in the 76 kg weight class, finishing just outside the podium in fourth place. She made five of her six lifts, recording a snatch of 80 kg, a clean and jerk of 97 kg, and a total of 177 kg. In the 81 kg weight class, Savannah Bolden earned a fifth-place finish with four successful lifts. She posted a snatch of 77 kg, a clean and jerk of 97 kg, and a total of 174 kg.
Day 4:
On the final day of competition, Shayla Kanemitsu closed out the event for LSUS in the 87+ kg weight class, finishing seventh overall. She made five of her six lifts, recording a snatch of 69 kg, a clean and jerk of 82 kg, and a total of 151 kg.
