Pilot Weightlifting Powers to Podium Finishes at National University Championships
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – The LSU Shreveport weightlifting teams delivered an impressive showing on the national stage this weekend, earning multiple podium finishes at the National University Championships against top programs including the University of Florida, Lindenwood University, and the University of Colorado Boulder.
LSU Shreveport secured a second-place finish in the coed team standings with 169 points, while both the men's and women's squads placed third overall, tallying 140 and 120 points, respectively. The Pilots' balanced effort across all divisions highlighted the depth and strength of the program.
Leading the way was a historic performance from Bryson Brown, who captured three gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total in the 65kg division. Brown also set three University American records across those same lifts, marking one of the most dominant individual performances of the competition.
Kyle Martin Jr. added to the medal count with a silver in the snatch and a bronze in total in the 94kg division, while Angel Vazquez earned a bronze medal in the snatch in the 60kg class.
In total, LSU Shreveport produced six individual medals and five All-American performances from Savannah Bolden, Brown, Martin, Hannah St. Gerard and Enyjai Tyson.
The Pilots also showcased their depth with 10 top-10 finishes across multiple weight classes:
