LSUS Falls in Tight Battle Against Louisiana Christian, 4-3
SHREVEPORT, La. -- The LSUS women's tennis team came up just short in a hard-fought match against Louisiana Christian University on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-3 to the Wildcats.
The Pilots started strong in doubles play, with Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado securing a 7-5 victory over A. Cedeno and P. Principal. However, Louisiana Christian claimed the doubles point after S. Ferrer/R. Rodrigues defeated Angela Basto/Lidia Gomez (6-4) and A. Geli/E. Mihailova edged Maike Tiemersma/Sara Sanchez (6-4).
In singles action, LSUS fought back with three solid wins. Pierina Lescher delivered a commanding 6-3, 6-3 win over S. Ferrer, while Maike Tiemersma dominated R. Rodrigues with a 6-4, 6-0 victory. Angela Basto added to the Pilots' tally with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win over P. Principal.
Despite the strong individual performances, Louisiana Christian sealed the team victory with key wins. Lidia Gomez battled hard but fell in three sets to E. Mihailova (6-4, 4-6, 3-6). Sara Sanchez was defeated by A. Cedeno (4-6, 4-6), and Daniela Maldonado fought back in the second set but ultimately fell to A. Geli (1-6, 7-5).
The Pilots will look to bounce back quickly as they return to action on Sunday against Northwestern State University. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
