Tennis Dominates Bethel College in Tournament Opener at Steve Foster Invitational

FORT WORTH, Texas – The LSU Shreveport women's tennis team opened play at the Steve Foster Invitational with a dominant 4-0 sweep over Bethel College (Kansas).

The Pilots showcased their strength early in doubles play, taking two of three matches to secure the point. Angela Basto and Maike Tiemersma blanked Grace Dawes and Patricia Huerta, 6-0, while Sara Sanchez and Lidia Gomez delivered an equally commanding 6-0 victory over Kate Rowland and Charis Yager. Pierina Lescher and Daniela Maldonado fell in a tightly contested match against Daniela Herrera and Daniela Casique, 3-2.

LSUS carried its momentum into singles play, winning four straight-set matches to clinch the team victory. Lescher battled past Herrera, 7-5, while Tiemersma's match with Casique was stopped with scores of 6-3, 1-0. Basto overpowered Dawes, 6-1, 6-1, and Gomez's match with Jenna Mahoney was stopped with scores of 6-2, 2-1. Sanchez and Maldonado also secured decisive wins, with Sanchez defeating Huerta, 6-1, 6-0, and Maldonado dispatching Rowland by the same scoreline.

With the opening victory, the Pilots look ahead to tomorrow where they will face Lewis-Clark State University at noon before taking on Our Lady of the Lake University at 4:30 p.m.
