Pilots Come Up Short at Dillard, 5-2
Shreveport, La. — LSU Shreveport women's tennis dropped a 5-2 decision to Dillard University on the road Friday, as the Bleu Devils used a strong showing in both doubles and singles play to secure the victory.
Dillard took early control of the match by sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the doubles point. The No. 1 duo of Lidia Gomez and Ana Julia De Paula Mandrot fell 7-5, while Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano and Lucia Lucas dropped their match 6-1 at No. 2. Jade Derks and Christlyn Ross were defeated 6-0 in the No. 3 position.
In singles play, LSUS picked up two wins to account for their points on the day. At the top of the lineup, Lidia Gomez battled but fell in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6. Lucia Lucas also dropped her match at No. 2 in a tight contest, 6-1, 7-6.
The Pilots' first win came at No. 3, where Ana Julia De Paula Mandrot rallied after dropping the opening set to earn a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Jade Derks added the second point for LSUS with a strong straight-set performance at No. 6, winning 6-3, 6-4.
Dillard secured the match with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Sara Sofia Sanchez Molano fell 6-1, 6-2, while Christlyn Ross was defeated 6-0, 6-0 to seal the 5-2 final.
